The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamonn Ó Cuív, T.D., officially opened Ionad Cúraim Leanaí Thír an Fhia this morning after the centre was blessed by Fr. Eddie Ó Conghaile.

The new centre is a first-class building which provides creche and nursery services as well as afterschool care services. The building will be opened from 8.00a.m to 6.00p.m from Monday to Friday providing child care services. Seventy one children attend the centre and fifteen people are employed on a full-time and part-time basis.

The project, which cost in excess of €2 million, was financed by an tÚdarás with assistance from Pobal.

Speaking at the opening, Minister Ó Cuív said that such an asset was highly beneficial for the islands district and that credit was due to all those involved in the project who worked so hard to develop a high quality centre which will provide childcare services through the medium of Irish for parents in the area.

Naíonra an Chnoic which was established in 1980 will be responsible for the nursery and Naíolann na nOileán, which was established in 1991 under Muintearas will be responsible for the creche.
