Preschools
There are 70 Irish language pre-schools established in the Gaeltacht. Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta is a new independent organisation founded to administer and manage the community preschool groups or naíonraí, as they are called in Irish, in the Gaeltacht.

Comhar Naíonraí is funded by Údarás na Gaeltachta and employes five full-time employees, one part-time employee and 140 naíonra directors are employed in the running of the day-to-day preschool activities throughout the Gaeltacht.

Over one thousand 3-4 year-old children attend 70 established pre-school groups or naíonraí in the Gaeltacht where the Irish language is a natural part of the children’s day-to-day activities. Children have the opportunity to learn a language in these early years, in an environment that also helps them to play, learn and socialise with other children through the medium of Irish.

The naíonraí have an important role to play both as a support mechanism for preschool education for native Irish speakers and as a learning resource for Gaeltacht children whose first language is not Irish. Children with varying levels of language competency including those with no Irish avail of these pre-school provisions.

This is a chance to give your child a gift for life.
