Work experience scheme
New applications under this scheme are not accepted at present.  Requests for new applications will be announced in due course.

Údarás na Gaeltachta recognise that young people often need a period of work experience to assist them in getting a job.

Criteria
This opportunity for work experience is available to Gaeltacht applicants who are fluent in Irish.

Procedure
Work experience is offered to:
  • Undergraduates: Gaeltacht undergraduates following a course in a practical discipline are offered the opportunity of summer work experience. Normally this takes place in the summer prior to completing their course and lasts between 12 and 14 weeks. Undergraduates are accepted for longer periods, however, when work experience is mandatory as part of their course (e.g. University of Limerick). The content of the work experience is practical (e.g. projects in materials management, quality control, production planning, etc.)
  • Office workers: Opportunities are offered to those who have completed a recognised course in office procedures, e.g. office information systems or secretarial studies, to gain experience in the work-place for a period of up to six months.
Assistance
Approximately €220 per week is paid to the trainee during the period of work experience.
