Project
Nemeton was founded in 1993 to produce television programmes for the rapidly expanding Irish language market.

Former journalist, Irial Mac Murchú started Nemeton as a one-man operation. Today it employs the equivalent of fifty full-time staff, including freelancers. It specialises in sports programmes and provides TG4 with all its sports coverage.

The headquarters, located in An Rinn, Co. Waterford, is fully equipped, enabling Nemeton to take product from script to screen.

Údarás is an equity shareholder in Nemeton. It gave initial support with a feasibility study and capital grant – allowing Nemeton to buy editing equipment – and has since provided employment and training grants.

Results
Says Irial Mac Murchú, founder and MD of Nemeton: “Údarás has been absolutely invaluable. I’d estimate that their support took a couple of years off our development period. It’s not just financial – their team is hands-on and ready with one-on-one support whenever we need it. They’re absolutely instrumental to our success.”

Perspective
Nemeton continues to expand rapidly, and is now moving into international co-productions. All international co-productions are made in two versions – Irish and English. The company has also become involved with training – together with Údarás na Gaeltachta and Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) it is offering a television production course through Irish.
