Údarás na Gaeltachta board meeting

At a meeting held by the Board of Údarás na Gaeltachta in Na Forbacha on Friday 24 March:

  • Funding of €4.75m was approved for Saoi Teo. to finance various education and training courses run by Údarás na Gaeltachta in 2006. These include: Development Schemes for Apprentices, Development Scheme for Managers, Third-level Education through the medium of Irish, The Lifelong Learning Programme and The Schools’ Programme.
  • Funding of €450,000 was approved for Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo. to enable them to continue their arts’ development programme in the Gaeltacht in partnership with An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
  • An assistance package was approved for Muintearas na nOileán in Tír an Fhia to develop and implement a new training programme in the Gaeltacht for 2006/2007, which would complement the National FÁS programme “Céim Amháin Suas”. This programme aims to provide further education and additional qualifications and skills for people who are unemployed, employed or on FÁS schemes. Muintearas intends to run the following courses: A Training Programme in Enterprise for the Self-employed; a Degree Course in Multimedia Compositions, Electronic Marketing for the Hospitality Industry; A Communications Skills Training Programme for Managers and Leaders; Special Needs Training for Facilators.
  • A financial provision was approved to seek preliminary planning work, prepare the appropriate diagrams and apply for planning permission to develop Údarás na Gaeltachta’s site at Baile an Fheirtéaraigh Thiar as a Training and Development Centre.
  • The Board was informed that €2.1m is available towards administration grants for co-operatives/community-based companies this year. Guidelines are in place for co-operatives who wish to target the following sectors this year: community development, Irish language development, tourism development and energy development.
  • A financial provision was approved for Arramara Teo. in Cill Chiaráin to enable them to implement a capital developmet programme.
  • A research and development grant was approved for Bard na nGleann Teo. in Béal Átha an Ghaorthaoidh to enable them to formulate a research and develop programme to develop a new product/service.
  • A feasability study grant was approved for Jedcoe Teo. to allow them to examine the possibilities related to the establishment of a wood pellet stove manufacturing project in a former Maysteel factory in Indreabhán.
