Údarás na Gaeltachta board meeting

Údarás na Gaeltachta approved the following projects at a board meeting on Friday 23 March 2007:

Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo.

A grant of €494,000 for Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo was approved for the implementation of an arts development programme in the Gaeltacht. Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo. in partnership with An Chomhairle Ealaíon provide various support schemes for artists and Gaeltacht communities undertaking arts initiatives.

Education and Training Programmes

A provision of €5.97m for Saoi Teo. to finance an education and training programme was approved by an tÚdarás for 2007. Saoi Teo. is a subsidiary of Údarás na Gaeltachta and the following are funded by the company:

  • Development Scheme for Apprentices
  • Development Scheme for Managers
  • Third-level Education through Irish
  • The Life-long Learning Programme, which intends to help adults enhance their skills and education
  • The School Programme, which provides career guidance courses, study skills, video workshops, Safepass courses etc. for second level schools.

An Chúirt, Gaoth Dobhair, Co. Donegal

A support package was approved to aid the development of a multipurpose leisure centre and spa at An Chúirt in Gaoth Dobhair.

Turbard Atlantach Teo., (Comharchumann Iascairí Ailt an Chorráin), Ailt an Chorráin, Co. Donegal

A research and development grant was approved to help the company in researching and developing the growth of the turbot in Ailt an Chorráin.

Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Teo., Acaill, Co. Mayo

A support package was approved to enable Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla Teo. to prepare a development plan for a Business and Community Services Centre on the site of the Abbey, in Bun a Churraigh, Acaill.

Comharchumann Ráth Chairn Teo., Co. Meath

Work space and a capital provision will be provided for the Comharchumann for the development of a library and archives in the Enterprise Centre in Ráth Chairn in conjunction with Meath County Council and the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

Aontec Teo., An Tulach, Co. Galway

A support package for expansion and additional development by Aontec Teo., at An Tulach was approved to aid further expansion and to increase production. It is hoped that 29 additional jobs will be created when this development is complete. The company has 136 people in full-time employment at the moment.

Martin Ryan Institute, National University of Ireland Galway, Carna, Co. Galway

A grant was approved for the Martin Ryan Institute for two research and development projects which will enable them:

  • To carry out, in partnership with a company from the United States, more research on the growth of crawfish in fishfarming
  • To develop a range of sea products for the leisure industry, such as ornamental fish, sea flowers and sea coral.

Research work on both projects will be carried out in the Institute’s Research Centre in Carna.
