Údarás na Gaeltachta welcomes co-funding from SEAI to implement energy conservation programme in the Gaeltacht.

Údarás na Gaeltachta has welcomed the decision by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) to provide €262,900 in co-funding to help it implement a programme of energy conservation in the Gaeltacht. The funding was granted under the Better Energy Communities Programme which aims to help communities and businesses make more efficient use of energy by lowering their energy usage and costs.
An tÚdarás applied for funding to implement an energy saving investment programme in 17 projects throughout the Gaeltacht, to include buildings occupied by its client companies, community projects, and Údarás buildings and industrial estates.
The total investment cost of these projects are €688,545 and will be funded as follows: €262,900 from SEAI; €329,000 from Údarás na Gaeltachta, and €103,000 from client companies and participating businesses.
Of the 17 projects in this programme, 8 are located in Donegal and include an investment of c. €400,000. The projects include: Áislann Gaoth Dobhair, RA Pacáistí Teo and Fáisc Miotail Éireann Teo on the Gaoth Dobhair Business Park; Aonad 1 (Uppidee Teo), Na Dúnaibh; Aonad 3 (Feidhm Mara Teo), An Fál Carrach; Snáth Dún na nGall Teo and Oileán Glas Teo in Cill Charthaigh and Áras Ghaoth Dobhair, Doirí Beaga.
The work being undertaken includes boiler upgrades, roof insulation, attic insulation, tank insulation, window replacement, internal dry lining, LED lighting upgrades, heating controls and zoning, and air compressor and fan upgrades.
The Chief Executive of Údarás, Steve Ó Cúláin, said “This programme of investment is very important for businesses as it helps them to reduce their running costs, making them more competitive and therefore assisting to conserve employment.”
