LECo Project to support Gaeltacht communities

Funding of €1.9 million was made available for LECo Project (Local Energy Communities) by the European INTERREG Programme under the Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme (NPA). The project aims to combine new innovative technologies with locally available natural resources to create sustainable Local Energy Communities in rural areas. The objective is that the Local Energy Communities created during the project will be self-sufficient in energy and operate using local renewable resources. The project will also promote the awareness of energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency.

Údarás na Gaeltachta is one of the partners and the other partners involved are Centria University of Applied Science (Finland), Western Development Commission (Ireland), Lulea University of Technology (Sweden), Renewable Energy Agency (Germany), Jokkmokk Municipality (Sweden), Lohtaja Energy Cooperative (Finland) agus UiT The Artic University of Norway (Norway). The project will bring together the combined experiences, knowledge and expertise of the project partners and provide conditions for creation of energy self-sufficient Local Energy Communities (LECo)
