Telegael Teo was established in 1988 as a joint venture between Raidió Teilifís Éireann and Údarás na Gaeltachta with Pól Ó Cuimín as Managing Director. The company, which provided post production services, employed three people. The establishment of the company was a strategic step in the development of the audio-visual sector in the Gaeltacht particularly in the Cois Fharraige Gaeltacht.

The company is now one of the largest television and cartoon production companies in the country. Its activities include:

  • The provision of production, post production and outside broadcasting facilities for the television production sector in Ireland and abroad;
  • The development and joint production of television cartoon series for the international market;
  • The provision of investment for the development of series in conjunction with other producers/partners;
  • The development of documentaries, entertainment and drama programmes for the domestic and international market;
  • The production of Irish adaptations of international cartoons for TG4 and RTÉ;
  • The production of publicity, educational and training material for public and commercial clients.

Telegael’s client list includes Disney, Discovery Kids, France Television, Super-RTL, KIKA, BBC, Nickelodeon, PBS Sprout and Cartoon Network. Telegael has co-produced more than 600 hours of television, distributed to over 140 territories throughout the world and translated into more than 40 languages.

Telegael is located in An Spidéal, Co Galway and currently employs in excess of 70 people. In 2007 Telegael established Studio Solas Teo, in conjunction with Údarás na Gaeltachta and other partners, to purchase the filming studio developed by Roger Corman. This studio currently employs 80 people during filming.
