Údarás na Gaeltachta / GMIT Innovation Award

The Údarás na Gaeltachta / GMIT Innovation Award will support two Masters degrees by research. These will each examine one of two topics:

 

 

  1. Marine / Blue economy development: International best practice will be reviewed to identify supports required by companies in the marine sector, and their application to sectoral development in Connemara and the West of Ireland. Alignment to Údarás na Gaeltachta’s Páirc na Mara development in Cill Chiaráin will be a specific focus
  2. Rural Enterprise: Rural enterprise development encompasses a wide range of potential research topics (e.g.: digital skills; marketing; business development; training; and innovation. The project will examine development opportunities in sectors of particular interest to Údarás na Gaeltachta including manufacturing and service industries such as tourism (see www.udaras.ie/en/forbairt-fiontraiochta/earnalacha/)

 

 

Depending on the research focus the Údarás na Gaeltachta / GMIT Innovation Award Scholars will register in a discipline of Prospective Programme Approval or under GMIT’s established Delegated Authority.

Two Údarás na Gaeltachta / GMIT Innovation Awards will be made in 2019. The successful applicants will receive:

 

  • A student stipend (usually tax-exempt) valued at €30,000 paid over 24 months1;
  • A travel and consumables budget totalling €3,000 over 24 months;
  • A waiver of postgraduate registration fees2;

The awardee will be required to deliver 2 hours/week in teaching support, tutorial, and/or demonstrating duties.

NB: Applicants to the Innovation Award scholarship categories will not automatically also be considered for RISE Scholarships. Applicants wishing to be considered for a RISE Scholarship must submit a separate complete application to the RISE programme.

1.Stipend instalments of €1,250 per month will be paid for a maximum of 24 months, and used to fund the living costs of the postgraduate research student.
